Bags ‘n’ Shoes: Lamb 1887 Agnes Clutch and Bronze French Sole flats

20140410-140345.jpg

Yet another new English designer for me – this time, it’s Lamb 1887, which is a reasonably priced label that has been seen on a few celebs (Pippa Middleton, Millie Mackintosh, Diana Vickers etc).

20140410-140706.jpg
The studded leather clutch comes with rose gold hardware, and a detachable chain.

20140410-140823.jpg
It also has some cute detailing on the bag, including the Lamb logo:

20140410-140909.jpg
And another logo on the zip:

20140410-140937.jpg
The bag is a good size, although because of the flat shape, it’ll be tricky to fit things in that aren’t, well, flat!

20140410-141124.jpg
I paired it with an older pair of French Sole flats that I picked up from a warehouse sale a few years ago.

20140410-141218.jpg
The neat thing about these flats are that they’re lined with some faux fur, making them perfect for those days where you want to wear flats but it’s still a bit nippy!

20140410-141404.jpg
I also thought that the bronze went pretty well with the rose gold and black of the leather. Also, I haven’t had much of a chance to wear these yet, so when I realised there was a bit of a match, I jumped at the chance!

20140410-141456.jpg
As you can see, my love of chain and leather straps is continuing at a healthy pace – and detachable straps are just so handy for turning an everyday smart bag into an evening clutch bag.

20140410-141653.jpg

The interior of the bag has a lovely beige suede interior, with a handy zip pocket section for holding your cards or blotting paper and the like!

20140410-144922.jpg

I purchased the Lamb 1887 Agnes bag from Atterley Road, which is a great retailer with an amazing edit of some great brands – perfect for picking up smart day wear, work wear and the like! You can also purchase it directly from Lamb at their website here. The bag retails for £150 and also comes in beige.

20140410-145044.jpg

The French Sole shoes are no longer available, but you can visit their website for more in similar styles and colours here.

Nautical and Nice

It all started with those pointed Dale flats from L.K. Bennett… And then the French Sole nautical collection. And Modalu’s nifty fabric Riviera tote with that amazing navy and white stripe… Pretty soon, I was obsessed with all things nautical, and, well, it was pretty much only a matter of time before this happened:

Nautical and nice

On the top row we have the aforementioned Modalu tote (£75), and next to that, the Soho grab, also from Modalu (£89). If leather is more your thing, Modalu also do this amazing azure blue Artemis shopper, which is one of my favourite colours this season (£199).  L.K. Bennett also have a couple of really cool nautical totes this season – at the end of the top row is the Hoxton canvas tote (£175), and the cool and quirky Lytham St. Anne’s canvas beach bag (£95, one of a series of three) starts off the second row on the left. Save your pennies with the simple chic of this navy striped tote with rope handles from Next (£20), or treat yourself to Kate Spade’s Welcome To Brighton bag (£130). Rounding out the bag selection are two clutches – on the left is L.K. Bennett’s embellished straw Evie clutch (£225), and the right is Kate Spade’s nifty Terrace Drive Abbett clutch (£245).

On to the shoes! On the top row we have French Sole’s red pointed Penelope flats (£180), then L.K. Bennett’s azure Connie espadrille wedges (£160). The L.K. Bennett team are mad for gosgrain this season, because they have several offerings that make use of the striped ribbon in a variety of colours – each of my selections is available in various bold striped patterns. Next to that on the end of the top row of three is another nifty pair of French Sole flats, Henriettas with a rope pattern that dances across the toes (£160). On the bottom row on the left are a pair of slingback pointed toe flats from Next (£26), another pair of simpler Henriettas from French Sole – I couldn’t resist the rope bow! – (£150), and then a peep-toe espadrille wedge from Next (£34). Finally, a Marlene block heel sandal from L.K. Bennett (£175), and those shoes that started it all, the Dale pointed toe flats, from L.K. Bennett (£150) – available in navy and white, azure and white, and raspberry and white, and all in that gosgrain finish I love so much!

Do you like to channel a bit of nautical style in your wardrobe come the sunnier seasons? Without doubt, nautical style is always in fashion during spring and summer, and I’m a sucker for it every time! Considering that it always makes an appearance on the shelves, it’s a smart investment to pick up a few nautical accessories to mix and match – you’ll probably find you end up using them year after year. Do you have an old favourite you like to bring out?

Replikating at Hobbs, Gunwharf Quays

Gunwharf Quays is my local shopping outlet, and whilst it doesn’t have as many luxury brands as Bicester, it’s still an amazing place to shop.

20140406-002508.jpg
If you’re after some Kate Middleton style, it’s also a great place to pick up replikates!

20140406-002615.jpg
Many of Kate’s favourite shops and brands are here, including L.K. Bennett, Barbour, Hobbs, Jaeger, Ted Baker, Links and Ralph Lauren

20140406-003046.jpg

I popped in to Gunwharf for a quick pit stop this weekend, and here are some of my finds!

20140406-003214.jpg

This awesome Ted Baker jacket in silver was a special sample priced at £80. Unfortunately it was a bit creased and didn’t photograph well, but it had a beautiful shape to the back.

20140406-003355.jpg

Ted Baker is an excellent place to get really gorgeous party dresses or frocks for the races.

20140406-003459.jpg

Another great outlet is L.K. Bennett. I’ve purchased many a great item in here, including a teal Jude jacket (£60) and a pair of black suede Harper pumps (£115). Highlights today included a black Davina dress (Kate has worn one in teal under her Jetta jacket – like the Jude) for £150, and Sledges in beige, gold and black glitter for £115.

20140406-003737.jpg

I spent most of my time in Hobbs though – I love the brand and the physical stores, but let’s just say their online service leaves a lot to be desired… But let’s stick with the positive for this post!

20140406-003900.jpg

There were a few items in here from the current mid season sale, including plenty of items in the same Dalmatian print that Kate wore in Southampton (hers was a collarless coat). The Niamh top was there in blue and white for £28.

20140406-004204.jpg

There were also trousers, a scarf, and a cardigan (£50).

20140406-004347.jpg

As the Dalmatian mac that Kate wore is long since sold out, these are great replikating options which use the same print! There are even shoes – the Lexi open toe court for £49 and the Bea ballerina, £35.

20140406-004628.jpg

My favourite replikate from Hobbs is the Myra wedge, in navy suede (£49).

20140406-004739.jpg

They also had the mushroom version, which was incredibly tempting!

Hobbs Outlet stores can be found at Bicester, Braintree, Canterbury, Cardiff, Cheshire Oaks, Kildare, Portsmouth, Swindon, Walton-On-Thames and York. Track them down at http://www.hobbs.co.uk.

Bag ‘n’ Shoes: Modalu Large Dickens Tote and Russell & Bromley New Dry Boots

20140402-153108.jpg

The lovely Tatiana from Tatiana’s Delights recently posted a great lead for the Modalu sale on her Facebook page, which prompted me to do a bit of investigation – and a lot of shopping! I had a couple of weekends away looming (one of which I’ll be posting about very soon!) and so I was in the market for a smart leather tote bag which could double as an overnight bag. Enter the large Dickens Tote!

20140402-153217.jpg

In the sale for a fairly hefty discount (although, sadly not any more), this bag is enormous, but it’s not so comically large that you can’t use it as an everyday bag when you have a lot to carry.

20140402-153246.jpg

It also comes with this nifty, detachable, horse head clutch, which would be great for storing travel documents! I’ve also detached it to use it as a clutch for evenings – it makes the perfect travel companion for the tote, I have to say!

20140402-153300.jpg

I paired it with my Russell & Bromley / Aquatalia New Dry wedge boots – as the weather gets warmer I’m going to have to retire these trusty boots with a heavy heart, so I thought I’d get some more use from them while I can!

20140402-153317.jpg

As I live in leggings and skinny jeans, they fit perfectly in my wardrobe!

20140402-153334.jpg

Also, you can’t go too far wrong with matching black to black!

20140402-153353.jpg

I’m also a bit in love with the simple design touches that add a generous dash of luxury to this tote. The horse head envelope clutch and the gold Modalu logo…

20140402-153407.jpg

And these cute shell motifs which adorn the zipper tags!

20140402-153419.jpg

What’s not to love? I am definitely incredibly impressed with the customer service, the quality of the product, and the speed of delivery, too.

20140402-153433.jpg

Inside the tote is one large open space with a zip top, plus an internal zipped pocket and slip cases for a phone and papers. On the back of the tote is another zipped pocket, meaning there’s plenty of room for sectioning off your pills, receipts and other important things!

20140402-153455.jpg

The Modalu Dickens tote is currently sold out, although here is a Google shopping link in case you can find one online. Visit Modalu’s site for more of their products here.

The Russell & Bromley New Dry wedge boot is currently available in most sizes at their site here for £225.

Sunshine at the Beach

Sunshine at the beach

Since I bought my lovely yellow Zara coat, I’ve been thinking of ways to style it for spring. As I’m also slightly obsessed with nautical stripes at the moment, I put together this outfit featuring a striped navy and ecru jumper from Next (£18), striped, pointed Dale flats from L.K. Bennett (and also available from Next… Although I’ve been waiting for mine to dispatch for a month: £150), inky denim leggings from Next (£24), the aforementioned yellow Zara coat (£99.99) and the Mulberry Lily in Emerald (£750).

Bright colours, nautical influences, and a mix of green, yellow, blue and white – what do you think? I have to confess, I’m struggling to come up with bag matches for this coat that go with the rest of an outfit!

EDIT: Grazia magazine UK is currently offering 25% off L.K. Bennett between 1-14 April. Pick up the 7 April edition with Gwyneth Paltrow on the front for your code, which can be used online or in a store!

The Perfect Spring Coat from Zara

Channeling two of this season’s hottest trends is this delicious lemon yellow coat from Zara, which caught my eye today!

The perfect spring coat

The collarless coat is hot shape for this season, and it’s one that I’m just starting to warm to at the moment. It’s a classic shape that has yet to make its appearance in my wardrobe, but I’m more than happy to make the plunge now I’ve realise how flattering and feminine it can be. And in this beautiful colour, it’s even more on trend – check out the Pantone colour report for Spring 2014 here. I have to say I’ve never described a colour as being ‘freesia’, but I’m definitely going to start now!

So what do you think of the collarless coat trend? Is it a yay or a nay?

Bag ‘n’ Shoes: St Patrick’s Day edition – French Sole and Mulberry

20140317-145348.jpg
Happy St. Patrick’s day everyone! I don’t usually get into the swing of this celebration (my Irish heritage is non-existent, sadly!), but it was the perfect opportunity to break out two of my favourite items!

20140317-145453.jpg
You all know I have an obsession with Mulberry and French Sole, so it seems pretty fitting that I have a pair of shoes and bag from these two companies that match pretty well, and are perfect for the celebrations!

20140317-145638.jpg
I absolutely adore the velvet ostrich finish on these French Sole flats that I bought on my factory store visit last year. So far it’s been too cold to wear them out, but I did manage to bust them out for a relaxed New Year’s Eve party! They’re so comfy, and they look very plush indeed.

20140317-145822.jpg
And here’s my beautiful emerald green Lily in micrograin calf – absolutely lusted after for over a year and bought in the Harrods’ cardholder sale late 2013. I just love the simple shape of the Lily, and the adjustable strap. (This Lily is still available at Mulberry for £750 here)

20140317-145948.jpg
It’s a classic shape which means it’ll never go out of fashion – and it can be dressed up or down for any occasion! Did I mention the adjustable strap is awesome? Because it is! I have a massive thing for chain and leather straps at the moment.

20140317-150056.jpg
Happy St Patrick’s day everyone! Are you dressing up or wearing green today?

Go Ape: Training Goalposts!

Me going Ape 640

As I may have oh so briefly mentioned, I’m going to be doing a fairly intense (I had no idea how intense…) obstacle run at the end of March, which I’ve been training for by using a 5K running app (see here, I LOVE it!). However, there’s more to an obstacle run than running. You may have caught that obstacle part, there. YES! There are obstacles! Now, thanks to a variety of fallen trees and other hazards in the local woods, I’ve been getting quite a lot of obstacle training into my runs, but none of them compare to the challenges that lay ahead… So, there was only one thing for it – another challenge, part training, part confidence boost, and all over good fun – Go Ape!

Go Ape logo 640

I knew this would be the perfect chance to get a little workout in, see how well we were all doing, and catch up with my team mates at the same time. I’ve been to Go Ape four times now (that’s me above back in 2010!) and I’ve loved every visit, so I knew it would be awesome! So, last Sunday, enjoying the first day of spring weather, we headed to Alice Holt.

Go Ape overview 640

The course is very lively, and beautiful in the sunshine, consisting of five sections, four of which are accessed by climbing a rope ladder. You start off with a safety demo (and I was picked on to be the volunteer this time when it turned out I had a PR pass!) and learn the ways of Go Ape, in which safety is paramount.

Go Ape safety 640

Swinging from a tree is serious business, but there are so many safety procedures involved it’s very safe – if you follow instructions. You have a variety of clips and attachments to make sure you’re always anchored in multiple places, which is very reassuring when you’re hanging from a tree in the middle of the forest. I have no idea how high these platforms are, but I have to tell you, they do make your knees go funny when you stand on the edge!

Go Ape climbing 640

Once you’ve done your safety demo, which involves the first of five zip wires (how else would you get down from such a great height? Zip wire, of course!), you get to start on the first ‘big’ set of crossings. First of all, you need to climb a rope ladder (can I overcome the obstacle of a rope ladder? YES!), and then you’ll face the first of the two Tarzan swing / cargo net combos. This is the part I look forward to the most – weightlessly flying through the trees, before a quick scramble up a net – which is one of the obstacles we face at the run at the end of the month!

Go Ape tarzan rope 640

The swing is daunting, and the cargo net is tough, but that’s what makes it so much fun! Unfortunately, we had a young girl in front of us at my visit who completely freaked out at the Tarzan swing, and despite careful, patient and professional coaching from one of the Go Ape team, she eventually had to back out and come off the course. The first Tarzan swing is the test of your courage – if you can’t make it across, it’s unlikely you can do the rest of the course. But we’re all made of stern stuff, right? Of course!

Go Ape cargo net climbing 640

The first cargo net is tougher than the second – I think it’s slightly looser – but we were really pleased with how well we managed to haul ourselves up them. Can we overcome the obstacle of the cargo net? YES!

Go Ape cargo net 640

The rest of the course is made up of various methods of getting from one tree to another – there’s always a metal cord that you stay clipped to as you go along, so you cannot – cannot – fall off of anything as long as you’re attached. The challenges vary from easy (wooden blocks to step on) to bloody difficult (stirrups), but if you ever have enough and just cannot take the strain, all you need do is relax into your harness and pull yourself along to the next tree platform.

Go Ape rope crossing 640

Sometimes the course handily splits in two so that you can follow an easier path if you wish. Did we do that? Of course not, we were doing a very important training session! However, there was one challenge I could not complete…

Go Ape no hands 640

Walking across the beam with noooo hands! Rachel actually pulled this off twice – incredible! I just couldn’t get my balance and held onto the safety cords which are attached to the wire – you can see them to the right of her head in this photo. That’s the nice thing about Go Ape – it’s tough, but if it gets too tough, you can sort of cheat. Unfortunately for me, balance beams are one of the obstacles I face at the end of the month. Can we overcome the obstacle of the balance beam? Well, only one of us…

After each treetop section is complete, you get on your zipline and speed off into the distance…

Go Ape zip line 640

…and it’s seriously the best fun you can have in the woods when you’re stuck up a tree. Amazing!

When you’ve finished your course, you even get a certificate and can pose with the Go Ape ape for a photo (if you bring a camera, natch), just to prove how awesome you are!

Go Ape ape 640

All in all, Go Ape is fantastic experience, whether you’re testing your strength, training for an obstacle race, or just want to have some fun! You do need to be in reasonable shape to complete the course, but it’s certainly not incredibly physically challenging. Plus, it gives you amazing bragging rights after, and the chance to eat some ham, egg and chips for lunch completely guilt free afterwards… Which may or may not be what I did at Alice Holt…

Go Ape ladder 640

Book your own tree top adventure with Go Ape at www.goape.co.uk. They even have segway courses (and you know how much I love segways!) and loads of locations all the way across the country (find out here). Tickets cost between £30-32 for adults, £24 for 10-17 year olds, and they even have special courses for tiny ones at £17 per child! I was given two tickets for the purposes of review for this post, although the fact that it was my fourth trip is a pretty good indication of how much fun I think Go Ape is!

So, let me know – have you Gone Ape before? Are you planning to? And how do you train for obstacle runs like Tough Mudder or X-Runner?

Bag ‘n’ Shoes: Nike Zoom Terra Kiger Trail shoes and Adidas Gym Bag

20140306-222615.jpg

Seeing as I’ve gone all sporty recently, I decided it was time for a different kind of bag ‘n’ shoes post!

20140306-223011.jpg

I can’t tell you how much I adore my new Nike Zoom Terra Kiger trail shoes! They’ve been through mud, down hills, up hills, through puddles, over logs and on concrete, leaves, gravel and woodland paths. The excellent tread means they grip better than regular shoes, but it’s important to remember they are not magic and therefore will not make you completely immune to falling over. Not that I have yet, but I am just waiting for that moment – surely it’s coming soon…

20140307-000048.jpg

And because I love the colour scheme so much, and I never pass up on the opportunity to match my accessories, I picked up a pink Adidas bag to store all my sports gear in… This way, it goes fresh from the wash into the bag, and I never have to turn the house upside down for a sports bra or a T-shirt again! In theory!

20140307-000344.jpg

You can purchase these trail shoes and loads of other great sports clothing and accessories from SportsShoes.com. (My shoes were c/o from SportsShoes.com for review purposes on the blog.)

20140307-000557.jpg

Do you have a favourite pair of running shoes? I have to confess, I’ve become slightly obsessed with trainers recently, and I may just have picked up another pair of road shoes… Stay tuned!

Favourite Things: Kate Spade Earrings

Since I first encountered the brand at Bicester I’ve fallen in love with Kate Spade’s preppy, girly style. So I had to pop into the Kate Spade store near Covent Garden the last time I was in London!

20140227-002041.jpg

The store is brimming with gorgeous treats, including some beautiful shoes on the bottom level.

20140227-002338.jpg

There’s also a small range of really pretty clothes, including jumpers, dresses and skirts. I’m definitely in the market for one of the brand’s beautifully structured dresses!

20140227-002619.jpg

For now though, I came away with something a bit kinder to my budget, these gorgeous skinny mini bow earrings:

20140227-002655.jpg

I’ve loved this design since I saw a gorgeous bracelet featuring it on Pinterest. That’s on my wish list next! Do you like Kate Spade’s style? Got anything on your wish list?
